I…TAKE YOU….
As I started to write out this part immediately the song “Just as I am without one plea” dropped into my spirit and I didnt understand why. I haven’t sang or heard this hymn for a very long time. Naturally, I googled the lyrics and about the author and the reason why she wrote it. At the time Charlotte Elliot wrote this song, she was going through doubts and conflicts about her relationship with Jesus Christ despite the fact that she was raised a Christian. She penned this hymn reflecting on how Jesus saw her, loved her, accepted her inspite of her own fears of inadequacy. It all didn’t matter.
Jesus still asked her to come.
He didn’t wait for her to get rid of whatever blots she perceived herself to have. If anything He desired that she get closer so that He would cleanse her.
It didn’t matter that she was unsure of herself or the unsavoury opinions others might have had of her. Where she thought she lacked or fell short, in Him she found the One who filled up those gaps.
In His presence she was always welcome, free, safe, forgiven, why? because He had promised these things and she believed Him.
The deepest love she had never known had broken down every wall she had put up as a way of protecting herself. Instead these very walls were limiting her.
Now she is His and He is hers alone.
“O Lamb of God I come”
Indeed I take you and I in turn give myself to you.
