Genesis 24:64-65
64 When Rebekah looked up and saw Isaac, she quickly dismounted from her camel. 65 “Who is that man walking through the fields to meet us?” she asked the servant.
And he replied, “It is my master.” So Rebekah covered her face with her veil.
I’m a fan of the TV show, “Say yes to the dress”. I watch bride after bride try on these gorgeous gowns. Their hearts start to go a flutter and she believes that indeed this is the ‘one’ she asks for a veil to get the complete look. Right before our eyes she’s transformed into another woman. The tears start to flow, finally she sees herself as an actual bride. That little piece of fabric makes her look ethereal, angelic, mysterious, a beautifully wrapped gift beholden of a great treasure within.
I always look at the groom at weddings, they seem eager to do the honours of unveiling their bride. I mean, he knows who she is, they have been dating for some time now, but the eagerness is always palpable. Once his gaze is upon her, he smiles and says, wow. Like he’s seeing her for the very first time. Its probably one of my favourite parts of the ceremony besides the vows.
The mystery of the veil.
I want to concentrate more on the brides with close cropped hair.
Question is how do I get to have a veil or keep my veil on?
The options are endless and in some cases creativity on your part is needed. Did you know that you can custom make a veil for yourself? It’s not difficult at all.
Since you can’t fit a comb through your hair, other accessories used can be, halo crowns/hair vines, alice bands, bridal head chains, flower crowns, hair clips or berets(if you have a bit of a fro) and yes even your favourite statement necklace.
HALO CROWNS/ HAIR VINES
These may be a little heavier for the purpose of weighing down the veil onto your head. Simply place them on top of the veil. Make sure that the halo perfectly fits the crown of your head.
BRIDAL HEAD CHAINS, FLOWER CROWNS OR STATEMENT JEWELLERY.
You can have your veil sewn onto the back of your head chain or statement jewellery with the clasp at the end.
This goes for the flower crowns as well. You can have artificial flowers or use fresh flowers that match your bouquet. Work with your florist on this. They can piece together little delicate flowers onto floral wires(grape vine wires)that are easy to bend into circular shapes. Then have your veil sewn onto the back of the crown.
ALICE BANDS.
No they aren’t just for children, grown ups can wear them too. These are a dime a dozen at any jewellery store and are very easy to use. You can still have your veil sewn onto it or use a hot glue gun.
The material for your veils can also vary from the traditional tulle to mesh(which is also known as the birdcage veil).
Go on and have fun creating something beautiful for yourself.
