BRIDAL BOUQUETS!!!

Songs of Solomon 2:1 I am the rose of Sharon, And the lily of the valleys

Haven’t you ever wondered what the Rose of Sharon looks like? A flower used to describe the Shulamite woman, King Solomon’s love, then later used to describe Jesus. Must be splendid surely. Well I googled and found out that Sharon is fertile plain found at that coast of Israel and that the Rose of Sharon is actually a late bloomer tree with brilliant pink blossoms. Some say there’s no particular flower called the Rose of Sharon, in fact, the most beautiful flower in any nation is called the Rose of Sharon.

So my lovely brides what’s your Rose of Sharon?

Many brides, at least in Uganda, are not too particular about the type of flower they have in their floral arrangements. More attention is put on the color and maybe the arrangement when it comes to decor. Again not much attention is put on pairing the gown to the bridal bouquet.

Let’s look at the different bouquet styles and how best we can pair them to the silhouette of the gown. Today we will start with

*THE CASCADNG BOUQUET*.

This is the waterfall type bouquet. It starts out larger at the top and drapes or flows down to a smaller size. Orchids and vines for some greenery are perfect for this because they already have that natural curve or drape to them. You can add other flowers as long as you have one that drapes to create that look. This bouquet is perfect for a mermaid/trumpet style gown. You can pair it with a ball gown by giving it a bit more volume at the top.

If your gown has intricate embellishments, let your bouquet have demure colors and if it’s simple, dont be afraid to go with brilliant bold colors.

THE HAND TIE BOUQUET.

Let’s continue with pairing bouquets to our gorgeous gowns.

This is starting to grow on me and quickly becoming my favourite. Unlike a round bouquet, a hand tie consists of a variety of flowers and has more greenery to it. It’s asymmetrical and looks you just handpicked the flowers straight out of a beautiful field of wild flowers. You are not limited to just roses, we have birds of paradise, lilies, marigolds, pansies, sun flowers and so on, go all out!!!

Let it be a burst of all your favourite colours.

A hand tie bouquet is perfect for an A line and mermaid style gown.

Remember this is about you, your unique personal style. Don’t be afraid to let you shine through!!!

THE ROUND BOUQUET!!!

This is probably the most popular one. Consists of mostly flowers of the same kind, in a symmetrical design and little to no greenery. These look great with the ball gown/Cinderella type of wedding dress. The size is important. Don’t make it too small as it will be swallowed up by the voluminous skirt. A smaller version of a Round bouquet is called a Posy. This is great for your bridesmaids. To make it a little more interesting you can add a long strip of lace/ribbon preferably one that matches the bridesmaids dresses.

We have seen jewellery added to these bouquets for a bit of bling. Ump it up with brooches of your groom’s name and yours. The ribbon that ties up the bouquet can have a print of your wedding date, or any phrase that means something to the both of you just as a sentimental touch.

Its important to speak to your florist not to make it too heavy to cramp up your wrist. Yet again the colors matter according to how detailed your gown is. Bolder colors for a simple gown and lighter for a elaborate one.

THE COMPOSITE BOUQUET!!!

Elegant and glamorous in simplistic look and yet apparently quiet difficult to put together. Why? Its because it’s a collection of individual petals, tied, pinned or most like glued together to form a huge single blossom. Sounds beautiful, doesn’t it? I can only imagine that it’s also light so its forgiving on the wrist since the bride carries it around all day.

The very thought of painstakingly putting one together may put off most florists I guess (let’s not even put out there just in case the bridesmaids want theirs in this style as well) but maybe if they considered mixing up real petals with some silk ones or even pretty paper flowers to avoid scenarios of droopy petals or tears and the like. Oh by the way, check out @Katascy Artisan for fantastic paper decorations. They are extremely creative for any and every occasion. You know for some structure so that your wonderful blossom holds up the entire day or at least till you do the bouquet toss then all bets are off at that point.

This bouquet, also known as glamelia, goes best with the ball gown or A line style gown.

So these, for me, are the standard bouquets and any other is a variation of these four types.
